Being connected to nature allows me to see the beauty in the finer details; in unexpected places with unlikely materials and objects. Exhibited in nature is the profoundness of everything that is random, geometric and mathematical, living and non-living. No two trees have the same appearance, but on the inside, they are the embodiment of methodical, mathematical algorithms of nature. At any given moment, you are experiencing life through the rustling of the trees, the songs of the birds and death through the leaves beneath your feet and the branches that snap under foot. Beneath the decaying leaf and branch, sometimes you can be lucky enough to discover the remains of a once living, breathing and sentient being; an animal. When I find one of these creatures, I feel graced to know that I have become acquainted with an animal that once was; an animal that I shared the Earth with. I draw inspiration from nature itself, as well as artists Francisco Goya, Victoria Reynolds and Salvador Dali; for giving me the dark aesthetic I emulate, as well as the fantastical, grotesque imagery I desire. My artwork is explicitly meant to be holistic in nature; not focusing on small, individual details but on the whole once living individual and their life story.
Commonly expressed in my paintings and other artworks is a dark, monochromatic theme that emphasizes the dark and grotesque in a beautiful way. With most of my artwork, I focus on creating religious iconography with the use of symbolism, arrangement and gold leaf and other mediums. Shifting the focus from religious human figures to animals contravenes common religious iconography that echoes the Paganist expression of my art. In both painting and sculpture, I wish to bring in the remains of the animals I find and allow them to transcend death through becoming something new and beautiful; a work of art. When art making, I combine natural found-objects, including animal bones, deceased butterflies, bees, moths and flowers with my dark visual style. Being a multimedia artist, my paintings and painting style can vary in appearance. I have created paintings that focus on the abstraction of nature and color to create visually stimulating color interactions that are geometrical but also random. I incorporate my natural found-objects to add sculptural elements to paintings; taking them from two-dimensional to three-dimensional. With the bones, I wish to express the beauty of nature and animals in an unconventional way to glorify the creatures, even after death. I adorn these creatures with beautiful, natural crystals and gold leaf and respectfully handle them as well. I explore dark thematic imagery and figures to walk the boundaries of beauty and horror, natural and the unnatural to accentuate the daily dissensions in everyday life.
